Manumetal, a local company dealing in manufacturing and retailing furniture has announced that they would soon start partnership with Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) to develop an efficient home-grown human resource force.

Speaking at KIST, Robert Bayigamba the Director General of Manumetal said that the signing of the partnership will be a significant breakthrough in developing local capacity.

Bayigamba is also the Chairman of Private Sector Federation.

Tony Mitchell, a Consultant with Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) at the institution said that experts from Strathclyde University in Scotland UK will be sent to KIST to train a selected group of lecturers.

The lecturers will then facilitate other trainees in a short course. According to Mitchell, the same group of experts will provide capacity building to staff at Manumetal.

Bayigamba said that the training will enable his company to compete globally.

During an interview, Abraham Atta Ogwu, the Rector of KIST welcomed the partnership and said that it will facilitate the increase of practical knowledge amongst the students.

The new development unfolds following advice offered by the British Advisory Council [BAC] to Manumetal which called for capacity building among their staff members to increase skilled manpower in the firm.

The experts will be dispatched through the Africa Knowledge Transfer Partnership [AKTP] and will be funded by the British Council.
