Frenchman Hubert Velud is on the verge of being appointed as new head coach of Libya who sacked Serbian Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević.
Micho, who previously coach Rwanda between 2011 and 2013, was shown the exit by the North African country on Tuesday, September 17, after a poor start to the 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign, drawing 1-1 with Rwanda in Tripoli before losing 2-1 to Benin.
Times Sport understands that talks with Velud has reached an advanced stage and he is set to be named as their new coach in the ‘coming days.’
Velud, 65, previously coached Togo and Sudan. He was appointed as head coach of Burkina Faso in April 2022 and led them to the second round of the 2023 AFCON before resigning in February 2024.
Libya, who are bottom of Group D of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, will face Nigeria on October 7 and October 15 respectively before a trip to Kigali to play Rwanda on November 11.
