The National Electoral Commission (NEC) announced provisional results on Tuesday September 17, with Telesphore Ngarambe and Penine Uwimbabazi elected as the university representatives in the Senate.
Ngarambe was elected to represent public universities and higher learning institutions, while Uwimbabazi will represent private universities.

Ngarambe secured 808 votes, which constituted 54.89% of the vote, and Uwimbabazi garnered 674 votes, amounting to an overwhelming 97.68%.
The elections, which had a voter turnout of 84.42% in public universities and 77.08% in private universities, were contested by four candidates.
The electorial college consisted of respective academic and research staff from those entities.

Uwimbabazi holds a PhD in public policy analysis and conflict transformation from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. She has over 15 years' experience in academia, and currently works as Vice Chancellor of the Protestant Institute of Arts and Social Sciences (PIASS).
Ngarambe, 52, is the Dean of the School of Arts and Languages at University of Rwanda. He has over 24 years of experience in academia.
