The Confederation of African Football (CAF) ON Monday, September 16, announced that the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) will take place from February 1-28.

The tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, marking the first time the event will be held in East Africa since Rwanda in 2016.

In a press conference in Nairobi, CAF president Patrice Motsepe expressed confidence in the region's ability to deliver a successful tournament.

He highlighted the infrastructure improvements underway in the host countries, particularly in Kenya, where stadiums in the country’s capital Nairobi are undergoing major renovations to meet CAF standards.

The 2025 CHAN will feature 19 teams, up from 16, with qualifiers starting from October 25 and concluding in December 2024.

The tournament, which focuses on locally-based players, is expected to provide a platform for developing talent that could shine in future Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments.

Kenya's president William Ruto assured CAF that key stadiums, such as Kasarani and Nyayo, will be ready for CHAN 2025. Additionally, construction on Talanta Sports City Stadium will be completed in time for the 2027 AFCON, which the three countries will also co-host.

Motsepe expressed excitement about the tournament, calling it an opportunity for East Africa to shine on the global football stage.

He emphasised that CHAN 2025 will set the foundation for hosting larger competitions like AFCON 2027, solidifying the region's football infrastructure.
