AS THE FIRST DEEJAYING COMPETITION in Rwanda gets closer, different players in the music industry including DJs are welcoming the development saying that it is an innovation that will play a significant role in boosting the DJing career in Rwanda which currently lacks enough players.

 Dubbed the ‘Mutzig Amabeat DJ competition,’ the contest is organised by Bralirwa Plc under its mainstream brand MŰTZIG. It started in July and will run till September 2022.

 The competition, according to DJ Sonia, is a space for young DJs especially women, to grow in the Rwandan music industry and guide them on how to get notable benefits in the industry.

The first rising female disc jockey also said that the competition comes at the right time when the nightlife business is recovering from the pandemic, saying that it will help some DJs get exposure that will help them get different opportunities including gigs in nightclubs and concerts.

 According to DJ Habz, member of the famous Nep DJs duo, the contestant is a great addition in the music industry which will help DJs learn from each other hence raising their spinning skills.

 "This is a great experience that many of us never had while starting this career. For the beginners, this is a big platform to shine and showcase what they got in their hands” he said.

Habz further said that the contestant might contribute to the rise of different unpopular genres in Rwanda like house and EDM if the participants represent them well.

 For DJ Toxxyk, such innovations indicate how the DJing career has started getting recognition in the country which can be easily seen in the partnership it is getting from big companies like Bralirwa.

 "Bralirwa supporting DJs means a lot to the music industry because some of us never had this opportunity. We need more partnerships and competitions to uplift Rwandan DJs,” Toxxyk said while urging young DJs to hurry and register for the competition. 

 "A DJ’s goal to succeed is as competitive as ever. When not behind the decks, DJ’s need to be constantly contacting and networking, as well as self-branding and promoting on social media in order to land gigs, and this contest will help this apply in Rwanda. It was a necessity in our industry!” Lucas Mugisha, an 18 year old EDM DJ said about the competition.

According to organisers, the winner of the MŰTZIG AMABEATS DJ Competition will be awarded a one year contract as the Official MŰTZIG DJ. The same company has in the past played a big role in the rise of Rwandan music through Primus Guma Guma Superstar, the first big music competition to stage in Rwanda.
