For parents that have been worried about how to keep children busy entertained while learning during this long holiday, The Summer Camp is back to offer them an exceptional experience, thus killing the boredom.
The Summer Camp, Rwanda is organised by TL events, a business firm that mainly works on innovative events in Rwanda.
Having an interview with Terhas Legesse, the managing director of TL events, she explains that the summer camp that will start from August 1 - 25, is aimed to inspire different vocational opportunities through various activities.
She adds that the fun fest will allow children to have a chance to fall in love with a skill that would suit their talents passionately.
"Children learn basic skills at schools that would help them function in society. Therefore, The Summer Camp wants to support schools and parents by presenting activities that usually require courage and bravery sometimes to take up,” she states.
Legesse stresses that the camp will have plenty of activities that will entertain children, targeting activities that are more vocational, those that would enable them dream about future careers and challenge themselves.
She also explains that children aged seven to 17, from different schools will have four hours every day to learn different activities, every after an hour.
"We want kids to go get the best from their instructors, enjoy different classes, which are 12, and decide which ones they prefer, that way, they will be excited. Kids will be clarified accordingly to classes, for instance, the business class, starting from the age of 10 to 17. We will categorise children according to their age groups as they have diverse kinds of levels of thinking, and understanding. That way, it would even be easy to question their teachers where necessary,” she emphasises.
She has no doubt that the activities will allow kids to learn for a long time. It will start from 8am to 12 pm, and 12pm to 1 am, it will also enable children to come together to play, learn, make friends, tell stories, and make great connections.
Legesse notes that the summer camp is comprised of day and overnight, for example, kids will experience and enjoy activities such as, music, filmmaking, sports, culinary art, fashion, photography, and so forth.
She further points out that the night camp will be cozier and nature orientated, as children will build their tents, learn how to play African drums, cook African food, and also tell stories.
Here, the parents will be invited, because it’s a new experience so that they are not worried, and make sure the children are safe, especially those with allergies. The place will be safe and parents have signed their consent accordingly, she adds.
Legesse says that the night camp will be limited to 35 children, and each of them will carry one of their parents or guardians, and children will be able to have the same experience as the day camp. The night camp is from Friday to Saturday, it will include hiking, and yoga. While the day camp will run from Monday to Thursday.
She explains that children will also get to learn how to meditate, use yoga while angry, and relax their minds while stressed especially during exams. ‘The night camp includes lunch and dinner. There will be transport services at cheaper costs.’
For the day camps, she adds that children will be allowed to pack their food and snacks, or pocket money to buy whatever they want to eat. The cars will pick them up from different locations once they have registered. There will be gazetted meeting points.
Legesse stresses that children will be equipped with knowledge and skills that will be necessary for the future, for instance, the business class will equip them with the art of saving, supervising, delegating, and planning.
She adds that they will be taught different kinds of business ideas in a fun way, and professionals will be invited to teach them how to run businesses, backed with their life examples they have experienced in their own businesses.
Since the camp will have activities like traditional music and dance, and film, renowned figures will be present to tell their stories from how they started in diverse industries to where they are now, including their challenges and successes. ‘Professional cooks will take the kids through making different food recipes, and allow them to taste what they will cook.’
The day camp will take place at Canal Olympia- Rebero, and will cost Rwf95, 000 per week, per child, while the night camp will be at Cyohoha Camping Site- Bugesera district from Friday to Saturday at Rwf85, 000 per weekend.
