Rwandan youngster George Lewis Igaba- Ishimwe is looking forward to leaving Arsenal on loan to get more playing time.
The 22-year-old winger extended his stay at the club last season for one more year but with the club bringing in many players during the transfer window, his chances of moving to the senior team look slim.
The budding talent mentioned that he is elated with the contract extension after his recent injuries and he will welcome a loan move in order to get adequate playing time.
"I broke my ankle and was out for eight to nine months. I got a few minutes here and there for the Under-23s at the end of this season but I didn’t play as many minutes as I wanted,” Ishimwe told Norwegian journalist Tobias Eilertsen.
"The club chose to activate the option [to extend the contract] and I’m really happy they did. If not I wouldn’t be here.”
Ishimwe further stressed that his injury nightmares are off his mind now and he is looking ahead to a blossoming career.
"I feel fit and ready. The injuries are way behind me and now I only focus on what lies ahead. I’ve had a really good rehabilitation period at Arsenal and really good people around me.”
"I just want to play matches. If it’s at Arsenal or on loan at another club, I honestly don’t know. There has been some interest around, so a really important decision for my career is coming up, where I’m going to play the next 6 or 12 months.” He added.
Ishimwe was born in the Rwandan capital of Kigali but grew up in the Scandinavian country of Norway where he was playing until being signed by Arsenal in the summer of 2020.
He is eligible to play for both Rwanda and Norway at senior level..
