Nep DJs have unveiled plans to start a monthly house and EDM music event dubbed ‘The Rave Party’ which will be held every last Saturday of the month.
Habs and Berto, the duo, confirmed the development on Thursday in an exclusive interview with Weekender, noting that the event will cater for fans of electronic dance music, house music, and more.
Habs says that the inspiration behind the rave party is to introduce EDM and its sub genres which are gaining an increase in its consumers in Rwanda who don’t have space to connect and enjoy the sound and songs produced in the genre.
"EDM and its branch genres are boosting in Rwanda, yet we don’t have parties or festivals of such genres. With this event, we hope that house music and EDM will get more listeners in Rwanda,” Habs notes.
Asked if other genres won’t be played at the event, Berto says that the whole set will be a mixture of different styles of music but EDM and house songs will have a one to two hour live session in the event.
Electronic dance music, commonly known by the acronym EDM, is an umbrella term for various percussive electronic music genres. All EDM is created through a combination of digital and analog equipment, including synthesisers, drum machines, and samples of previous recordings.
It is the genre that gave birth to house afro music and the trending ‘amapiano’ of South Africa which is taking over on the globe.
According to the Nep DJs, the Rave Party will be a space to promote Rwandan musicians in the genre as well as introducing their music to Rwandans.
Some EDM and house songs include ‘Unbreakable’ by Eloi El, ‘Kamwe’ by Rwandan all-stars, Selema, Big Flexa, Play Hard, among others.
