Kiyovu SC president Juvenal Mvukiyehe has said that winning the league title remains the club’s main target next season.

Mvukiyehe made the statement after announcing Patrick Aussems, a Belgian, as the club’s new head coach in a deal that will run until June 2026.

The Green Baggies, under the tutelage of Francis Haringingo, lost the league title to APR FC by a point but Mvukiyehe is confident the new coach’s experience in winning titles  can help guide the team to the trophy they last won 30 years ago.

"The league title remains our priority. We are looking forward to succeeding where we failed last season. We could not deliver the league title we promised our supporters last season but, with their continued support, I assure them that we can win the league title this coming season,” Mvukiyehe told local sports radio station B&B FM Umwezi on Tuesday.

"At least 90 percent of the players we had last season are still with the club. We only had to bring in a coach with enough experience in winning titles, a coach who knows what the club and its supporters want. With this shared dream, I am sure the trophy is on our side,” he added.

Aussems, 57, will be assisted by Jean de Dieu Mateso and Ugandan Frank Plaine as the club’s fitness coach. The club also wants to bring in Mukura’s goalkeeper coach Theogene Djabil  Ndaruhutse to assume similar responsibilities in the team.

Okwi going nowhere

Mvukiyehe also dismissed reports that the club would lose their talisman Emmanuel Okwi who is reported to have a number of offers from foreign clubs on table.

However, the appointment of Aussems has reportedly made Okwi change his mind and is now considering extending his contract with the Green Baggies so he could reunite with his old coach with whom they shared successful moments during their time together at Simba SC.

Mvukiyehe revealed that negotiations with the striker are underway and is confident he is going to stay with the club.
