CNBC Africa Rwanda Golf Day brings together business executives

Close to 100 top business executives featured in the CNBC Africa Rwanda Golf Day held at the Kigali Golf Resort and Villas on Thursday, September 12.

The one-day golf event saw business owners, CEOs amongst others competing in the sport of golf while networking.

The event which had both international and local business bosses who are golfers was played in groups with 18 participating teams. There were, however, individuals who won accolades for their exceptional display.

Dries Grobler won the Longest Drive award while James Mureith went home with the Nearest to the Pin award.

For the group awards, the team involving Robert Bafakulera, Innocent Rutanu, Kenneth Murangira and Ras Tinyinondi emerged winners with 80 points.

In an interview with the New Times, the CEO of I&M Bank PLC (Rwanda), Benjamin Mutimura indicated that golf is a unique platform to meet customers.

"Sponsoring this golf event is a great opportunity to also contributing to the growth of sports. CNBC Africa and I&M Bank are continental brands and this golf event offers opportunity to engage participants on what the bank can offer in line with our short and long-term plans," Mutimura said.

CNBC has been organising golf events in other countries but this is the second time the event is being held in Rwanda. The first was in 2023.

I&M Bank, one of the top financial institutions in East Africa with branches in Kenya, Mauritius, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda was the premium sponsor of the competition.
