There is an increasing demand for services at ‘Genuine Kunga therapy services Centre’, a branch that was recently opened at Gishushu, Rukiri cell, Remera sector, KG 203 Street, House 7, close to Gasabo district and Rwanda Development Board (RDB) offices.
The therapy centre treats people with various ailments including back pain, issues of the joints, migraines, and depression, damaged disks, paralysis, muscles, and bone fracture/injuries among others.
The centre, which has been operating for eight years in Rwanda, offers "Kunga Services” which are physiotherapy services.
Physiotherapy is the treatment of a disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as massage, heat treatment, by exercise rather than by drugs or surgery.
Kunga services derives its name from Kinyarwanda word ‘Kunga’ which is an ancient form of physiotherapy in Rwanda - a way of doing therapy, fixing, joining or treating a bone fracture, a disorder by using only hands and fingers.
The centre also offers therapy for children with disabilities such as those who can’t sit, perform poorly in classes among other issues.
Gad Kirenga, the CEO of Genuine Kunga therapy services Centre, said the branch at Gishushu is also serving people, mainly expatriates and high profile people among others.
"We set up this branch because of the demand and new market that comprises diplomats, expatriates, people from neighbouring countries such as DRC, Uganda, Tanzania, and the international community. Kigali is a busy place and those are most of the people we are hoping to service. The demand is growing,” he said.
He also said the new branch was set up in the centres of well-known and busy places in Kigali that are easily accessible to people.
"The place is enough to host and attend to people, because all people do not come at once. We can treat at least 10 people at any given time. We have well trained and experienced staff. They also speak French and English, besides the local Kinyarwanda language,” he said.
He reiterated that Kunga service is very unique, explaining the reason behind rising demand.
About other branches
The company is registered in Rwanda and has branches in Harare, Zimbabwe and Central African Republic.
It has five branches in Rwanda-two branches in Kigali-one close to Kimironko market on KG ST 8 and the other on the left side of a former prison in Kimironko sector, Kigali city.
They operate another branch in Rubavu district which is located behind the main mosque.
"It is indigenous, African therapy technique that has borrowed a few practices. Those that we have treated using Kunga, the results are speaking for themselves. The people are healed. Pain disappears.
We have realised that there has been serious demand because if one person is treated, they go and tell others who also come in. That is why we are expanding to reach a wider national, regional and international community,” he noted.
Cutting travel costs
A Zimbabwean partner in Genuine Kunga therapy Services Company said that Kunga services are saving money that people could spend on surgeries and medicines sometimes abroad.
"Some were thinking of going to India, Germany, France, UK, and South Africa for treatment. Most of these people never went there, they came for our services and the pain disappeared. They are treated in 20 sessions and they get healed,” he said.
He added, "At the branch in Gishushu, we deliver both therapeutic services and relaxing and leisure based therapy. With the leisure aspect, people who have fatigue and want to have a good time get a leisure massage together with Kunga services for leisure. With this people feel rejuvenated.”
The new branch with a green and therapeutic environment also has a garden with nature that provides fresh air to those coming for Kunga services, he added.
