FIBA W. Cup qualifiers: Mali forfeits Uganda tie

The Malian national basketball team has forfeited their match against Ugandan at the FIBA World Cup qualifiers that are underway in Kigali.

The Malians did not show up at the BK Arena and according to reports, they refused to play due to internal issues in their local basketball federation.

Uganda won the game by forfeiture.

The Ugandans will now play their first game on the court tomorrow against Cape Verde who beat Nigeria on Friday.

In the first game of the showpiece, Cape Verde overcame Nigeria to win their first game on 79-70.

Real Madrid star Walter Tavares, alongside Joel Almeida put up a double-double to lead the Cape Verde team past the D’Tigers of Nigeria.

Tavares scored 15 points and 13 rebounds while Almeida added 14 points and 13 rebounds with seven assists and three steals.
