Lil K, former member of Green Ferry Music, who has been making Hip-Hop and Trap music for the last four years has added Afro-beat genre in the making of his music.
This comes after the fast-rising artiste based in Canada, dropped ‘Domina’, a hit produced in Afro-beat which is topping charts in Rwanda, making him a new member of artistes producing the genre which is taking over on the globe.
The singer has successfully carved out a niche as one of the best fast rising artistes in Montreal, making rounds in different diaspora concerts in the west.
Speaking to The New Times, Lil K said that the inspiration to jump on a different genre came from his vision of making music for all, including consumers of the Afro genre.
He said that with the help of Element pro who is one of the best music producers in Rwanda, he has managed to record and drop at least two songs in Afro-beat including Lala and Domina which premiered on 25 June.
"Domina’ is one of many other projects that I am working on which indicates the new Lil K in the music industry. I have always been a big fan of the Afro genre and it’s time to jump on the wave,” he said.
Lil K also revealed plans to return home this summer where he is scheduled to perform in different countries including Burundi and Rwanda.
Born in Burundi and raised in Rwanda, Lil K HPB knew he would become a musician at the age of 14 and recorded his first single ‘Seen’ in 2018, aged just 17.
The song was recorded and produced at Green Ferry Music under which he saw his career grow alongside the likes of rapper Bushali, B-Threy, Icenova, Amalon and Kaya Byinshi among others.
His career has since been on an upward trajectory. At the end of October 2020, Lil K was named as one of the 18 semi-finalists for the ‘Take Back the Mic’ hip hop competition that featured participants from different countries including Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Africa.
