Teams to observe a minute of silence in honor of late coach ‘Vigoureux’

The Rwanda Premier League (RPL) has announced that a minute of silence will be observed across all venues that will host Match Day 3 league fixtures in honor if late Jitiada Mungo "Vigoureux," a veteran youth coach who passed away on Thursday, September 12.

Vigoureux, 67, played a pivotal role in shaping football talent in Rwanda, particularly in Rubavu District, over the past four decades.

The league board, in a statement released on Thursday, expressed deep condolences to the grieving family and extended gratitude to the coach’s contribution to the development of Rwandan football.

"This will be done in honor of coach Vigoureux, recognizing the legacy he left in football,” reads part of the Rwanda Premier League Board statement released on Thursday, September.

Vigoureux was widely respected for discovering and mentoring several players Haruna Niyonzima, Jacques Tuyisenge, and Djihad Bizimana who went on to become top footballers on club and national team levels.

His dedication to nurturing young talents since retiring from Etincelles in 1982 earned him a lasting reputation in Rwandan football.

Vigoureux had been receiving treatment at Gisenyi Hospital for an illness before his passing on Thursday morning.
