Florien Uworizagwira, commonly known by his stage name Yampano, is among many fast rising artistes in Rwanda today. The singer joined the music scene in 2021 but now has attention from many music lovers due to his skills in composition and his melodious voice.
Born in Nyamasheke District, Yampano grew up in a religious family, his father played guitar in church while his mother and siblings sang in the choir. Though he was not in the church choir, the young singer had passion for music which made him eager to know how to play the guitar just like his father.
"My father was a great pianist and I used to sneak in and take his piano, but I broke the frets every time because I didn’t know how to play it. He later on decided to give me some lessons after seeing how interested I was to play,” says Yampano.
Yampano realised his potential in music during high school. "I enjoyed covering other artistes’ songs especially Meddy, The Ben, Buravan and Bruce Melodie. When I got to high school I joined a choir and was honestly quite shocked that students liked my voice and that motivated me to keep doing it. From then my love for music grew tremendously and I found myself in the world of music.”
His recent single dubbed ‘Uworizagwira’ produced by Element, one of the most sought-after producers, was a huge success. This song got great feedback from music lovers in Rwanda as well as fellow artistes.
"Uworizagwira talks about my life and I felt so blessed after how great it turned out. The song’s title is derived from my name because it uniquely represents me musically and my journey till today. I have more in store for my fans and I am sure they will enjoy other songs that are yet to come,” he says.
The 22-year-old who is signed under TB Music Entertainment has released six songs, ‘Uworizagwira’, ‘Mayibobo’, ‘Cano’, ‘Inzira’ ft. Yvanny Mpano, ‘Nuwande’ and ‘Priave’. This young talent promises to keep giving his fans the best music if they keep supporting him.
