The National Basketball Team on Wednesday, June 22, beat their Ugandan counterparts 84-45 in a build-up game that took place in Alexandria, Egypt.
The game is part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers second window that is scheduled to take place in Kigali, from July 1-3.
During the game, Cheikh Sarr’s produced a dominant performance, winning the first 26-5, and the second one 20-4 to go into the half-time with a 46-9 lead.
When the teams came back for the second half, the Ugandans played better, ending the third quarter on 25-25, but Rwanda won the last quarter 13-11 to walk away with a convincing 84-45 victory.
Next, Rwanda will play against Egypt in their second warm-up on Thursday, while on Friday, they will take on Jordan.
In the FIBA World Cup qualifiers, Rwanda is in Group B which also comprises Cameroon, Tunisia and South Sudan.
The team will be looking to put up a great performance in the showpiece in order to overturn the abysmal performance that they put up in the first window where they did not win a single game, and try to clinch one of the 3 qualification slots in the group.
When the FIBA World Cup qualifiers showpiece kicks off, Rwanda’s first match will be against South Sudan on July 1.
In the second game, Rwanda will take on Cameroun on July2, and will wind up their matches against Tunisia on July 3.
