Kigali City Public Garden
Located just in front of the Kigali City Hall, the public garden is a green open air space with beautiful seats, grass and flowers where a person can sit, relax, read a book among other activities that can require quietness.
Users of this space enjoy free WiFi internet from the garden.
The attractive environment is also good for selfies.
Umusambi village
Umusambi Village is a beautifully restored wetland area, providing a sanctuary for endangered Grey Crowned Cranes saved from the illegal pet trade.
Located near Kabuga, on the road that leads to the Eastern Province, the facility is about a 20-minute drive from the city centre.
The nature reserve is a peaceful haven for visitors to enjoy the walking trails and learn about conservation work and the importance of protecting the natural environment.
Imbuga City Walk
The Imbuga City Walk is a car-free space situated in Kigali’s Central Business District.
It is a large, beautiful area fitted with well-aligned pavements and lush green trees and grass, ample lighting and recreation benches and sheds.
It has side kiosks in which snacks and refreshments will be sold to city dwellers who will use the facility.
Some people visit the area to enjoy the free Wi-Fi that is available all day, while there are those who meet there for different sorts of discussions.
The Imbuga City Walk was built as part of the city’s efforts to transform Kigali into a recreational space and environmentally friendly place for the residents.
The Kigali Public Library
Situated in Kacyiru, the library is a serene place to go and grab a book for reading or just sitting outside in its beautiful and quiet compound to listen to music on your phone, feel the fresh air, or just sit there and be silent.
This place also has a coffee shop where you can grab a coffee or a smoothie.
The Nyanza Genocide memorial gardens
Recently constructed to teach the young generations about the Genocide against the Tutsi, the Jardin la Memoire (Memorial Garden) is a large area located in Nyanza – Kicukiro, where people go to remember the difficult history of the country.
It is a beautifully designed place with lots of trees, flowers and pavements as well as art pieces to allow the visitors a quiet and serene time of learning about what happened.
Though it talks about the sad history, it is worth visiting, since it teaches not only Rwandans but the whole world about key lessons about the heavy cost incurred due to the past mistakes in the country, and how people should live in peace.
