Rwandan traditional singer Intore Masamba is expected to perform at the highly-hyped Inkotanyi Cyane live concert slated for July 8.

The 54-year-old labelled as one of Rwanda’s best traditional musicians alongside the likes of Cecile Kayirabwa will be performing live in Kigali as Rwandans celebrate the 28th anniversary of Liberation.

Speaking to The New Times, Masamba explains his upcoming concert as a 'kitamaduni' session, a culture gathering where he will be performing live most of the songs that boosted morale of RPA soldiers during the liberation struggle.

Another reason behind the concert, the Rwagihuta hit maker, notes that is to teach Rwandans mainly the youth about the liberation journey and history of Rwanda, as well as to urge them to be patriots and play a significant role in the development of the country

"The reason why this concert is named after the men and women who liberated our beautiful country is for us to acknowledge and pay tribute to soldiers, musicians who played their part in liberating the country through music. Their music will be part of our performances to give the liberation day celebrations relevance at the concert,” he explained.

Masamba will perform songs like ‘Inkotanyi cyane,’ ‘Rwanda Itajengwa,’ ‘Imanzi,’ ‘Kanjongera,’ among many others.

According to Axelle Umutesi, Communications Consultant at RG-Consult the organisers of the event, it’s not the first time a liberation concert is going to take place in Rwanda but this kind will give a whole different feeling and experience as both the young and old generations will get to watch artistes who were part of the liberation journey like Masamba perform liberation songs.

Umutesi indicated that there is so much more that will be unique at Inkotanyi Cyane concert from the set up to performances of different musicians including Ibihame By’Imana and others to be communicated.

"There are so many reasons as to why we decided to organise this kind of event. As RG, we are thankful to the people who gave their lives to give us what we now call home. It’s only right that we partner with people like Masamba to celebrate one of the biggest days in the history of Rwanda and also celebrate the amazing people who made that day come to life.” Umutesi said, explaining the inspiration behind the event.

The Inkotanyi Cyane concert will take place on July 8 at Camp Kigali. Tickets are already available via rgtickets.com on Rwf10, 000 for ordinary tickets and Rwf20, 000 for VIP seats, while a table of eight will go for Rwf400, 000.
