RUSIZI — The Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education, Theoneste Mutsindashyaka, has urged local leaders to sensitise residents on proper feeding in order to curb malnutrition among citizens.

He made the call on Monday, while visiting Rusizi District, to establish the state of education development in the area, upon which he expressed concern about children’s feeding patterns.

Addressing Bweyeye Sector residents, the Minister said, "I am surprised to see that we still have some cases of kwashiorkor among our children. Each and every health personnel and local leader in this area should encourage parents to feed their children well in order to avoid diseases caused by malnutrition.”

He urged residents to adopt family planning as well as embracing voluntary HIV/Aids testing in order for them to establish their health status.

The minister’s visit included stopovers in  Raich INT, Bweyeye B school and Groupe Scolaire de Bweyeye. During his tour he urged  school administrators to focus on the provision of quality education.

The Minister disclosed that his Ministry has donated 250 computers to schools in Bweyeye, with an  intent of promoting Information and Communication Technology.
