This year’s Kwita Izina cycling competition will take place on June 20 in Musanze, Northern Province, national cycling federation have confirmed.

The annual competition, formally called Volcano Tour du Rwanda is fully sponsored by the Rwanda Office of Tourism and National Parks or Rwanda Development Board (ORTPN/RDB).

Seven local clubs have already confirmed their participation: They include; Rubavu, Kayonza, Huye, Rapide, Rwamagana, Cine Elmay and Unatave cycling club. 

The national cycling federation vice president, Festus Bizimana told Times Sport yesterday that this year’s event will be more competitive than in the previous years because the winners’ prizes are higher.

And the participating clubs will be looking to use this competition as part of their preparations for the prestigious Tour de Rwanda set for November.

"The race will be very competitive because we have arranged very attractive packages for the winners,” Bizimana said.

However, he could not give details of the prizes on stake for the winners, saying they will announce further details in the coming weeks.
