Rwanda’s women rugby team, Blackbacks have been invited for this year’s Kampala International Women’s 7s tournament.
The CAR recognized event,  rolling into its 3rd edition will be held on June 27-28 at Kampala Rugby Club. It will be the first competitive tournament for the Blackbacks since last year’s edition.

The team last trained collectively last September when they were gearing up for the Africa Zone rugby World Cup qualifiers. Unfortunately, the team withdrew at the last minute citing financial constraints.

However, with Uganda Rugby Union (URU) meeting all expenses for the participating teams including accommodation, meals and internal transport costs, Blackbacks have no reason to miss the tournament.

"URU will take care of accommodation, meals and internal transport for a total of 12 players and 3 officials during the tournament,” URU’s secretary Alex Kalimugogo said.

Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi are some of the countries Rwanda expects to contend with.
