Last year’s losing finalists Atraco Fc are confident about storming the money-spilling round of this year’s MTN Peace Cup.

The league champions squeezed a narrowly 1-0 win over Police in their quarterfinal first leg clash on Wednesday courtesy of defender Donatien Tuyizere’s goal, his first of the season.

Atraco assistant coach Emmanuel Ruremesha told Times Sport yesterday that he is convinced his team will reach the semi-finals, which guarantees a share of the prize money.

"It was not an easy game against a very resilient Police side but we managed to win. They (Police) have given is tough times in a very match we’ve played against them this season,” Ruremesha admitted.

Skipper Jean Lomami, returning to the team after missing last weekend’s goalless draw against Rayon Sport in the league, missed a penalty that would have given his team a respectable 2-0 lead going into the second leg in July. However, the former Kibuye boss is confident the Taxi-men club will reach the next round and beyond.

"We have to be calm and play confidently in the second leg. Another 1-0 win will see us through, so there’s no need to panic,” he added.

In the other quarterfinal match played on Wednesday, Rayon Sport thrashed Electrogaz 4-0 with the goals coming from Marcel Lomami, Honore Kabongo, Jimmy Gatete and an own goal by Saidi Niyonfasha.

The second leg matches will be played on July 12 with the final set for August 1.
