Recent research done by BusinessBecause.com, indicates that the global cloud computing market is expected to be more than double in size by 2025, as consumers and businesses alike tap into the benefits of cloud computing.
Cloud computing involves the access of programs and saving data on the internet, rather than on a computer’s hard drive.
Also, it involves delivery of computing services, such as data storage, networking, web servers, database management systems, marketing automation and business analytics over the Internet.
When it comes to its importance, Sara Uwizeyimana, a computer science teacher at Apaper Complex School, Kigali says this is a skill that can help individuals collaborate easily without necessarily being at the same place, for instance in the office.
"I think this is a vital skill for employees to have, given that we are all moving into a digital world where everything is computerised. The good thing about this skill is that it can be applied in any field, thus having it, is a plus to your employability skills,” she says.
Uwizeyimana, who has been in this career for five years now, also believes that those with computer skills can learn cloud computing as it’s not that hard, keeping in mind that it comes with diverse benefits, including landing on well-paying jobs.
She goes on to note that as the industry continues to grow, these skills are being highly required by many organisations.
Solange Kiiza, a public relation officer working with an agriculture organisation in Huye, says as a communication expert, she has been forced to learn many additional skills, including cloud computing just to help her fit in.
According to her, she believes this is just one way of progressing in your career in general.
She cites that getting skills in this area has offered her many career paths, which has seen her progress, adding that this can as well apply to anyone else out there when they decide to explore opportunities that come with this digital world we are living in.
"The good thing about cloud computing, is that there are many roles one can choose depending on what exactly they want to settle for.
In addition to this, research also indicates that to make sure you’re staying relevant with the most up to date skills, upskilling in cloud computing is a smart choice.
It’s also indicated that this particular field is growing rapidly, with companies spending more on cloud computing each year. As spending increases, more cloud computing professionals will be needed to keep up with demand. For this reason, it’s believed that choosing to specialise in cloud computing means your skills won’t go out of fashion.
Meanwhile, it has been established that many organisations rely on cloud services to access the software they need to function, therefore, those with the skills will remain highly employable.
