Rwanda has been invited to take part in this year’s ICC/ ACA East African U-13 cricket tournament.
The event, to be hosted in Nairobi, Kenya will be played in the first week of June. It is set to be Rwanda’s maiden appearance in this age-bracket and augurs well with Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA)’s effort to develop the sport from the grass root.
"It‘s a good opportunity for the RCA development committee to weigh what it has been doing but all in all, I believe it is a good opportunity for the boys to get good exposure when they play against more experienced opponents in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania,” RCA’s administration officer Robert Mugisha said.
In the past, Rwanda has competed in a variety of regional junior competitions ranging from the East Africa regional Under-15 Championship, East African cricket U-17 boys tournament and most recently, the U-19 ICC World Cup qualifiers which were staged in Mozambique back in February.
Despite matching into the event as slight favourites, Rwanda struggled to come to terms with her opponents. Out of five games, Rwanda only managed one win (Gambia) while losing the other four against Swaziland, Ghana, Mozambique and eventual winners Sierra Leone.
