The National football league has been put on hold to pave way for the national team’s preparations for the 2010 World/Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Zambia on June 6.

According to officials in the local football governing body, Ferwafa, the league will return on July 18 after Amavubi’s next two qualifies against Zambia (June 6) and Egypt on July 5.

The champions, Atraco Fc go into the two months break leading the table standings with 47 points, two ahead of rivals APR. Rayon Sport are in third place on 40 points with two rounds of matches still to play.

The Amavubi Stars are set to start residential training on Thursday, May 14 in preparation for the Zambia qualifier.

Team coach Tucak Branko is expected to name a provisional 25-man squad this evening (May 14).

Amavubi have received up to three invitations for friendly matches before they play Zambia on June 6 away in Lusaka.

DR Congo, South Africa and Malawi have all written to the local football governing body, Ferwafa requesting for warm up matches with the Amavubi Stars. But Ferwafa is yet to come with any decision on which country they will play before they head to Zambia.

The local football body is already planning to have the professionals here on time so as to give  Tucak ample time to be with the team.0

After drawing their first game against Algeria, Rwanda needs a good result in Zambia to keep their qualification hopes alive. Zambia also played out to a 1-all draw away to Egypt in Cairo.

The draw left the group wide open as all countries are tied on one point each. Still in group C, Egypt will play away to Algeria on June 7 in a Northern Africa affair.
