I happened to arrive in town at about 9.00pm last Saturday from Butare. However, I was disappointed not to find taxis going to different Kigali suburbs at that time.

I had to get a special hire taxi to Kimironko parting with much more money than I would have normally spent. Whenever I encounter this problem, I’m upset with taxi drivers.

I wonder whether they are keen on hard work. How will people fight poverty when they choose to go to bed early?

The drivers have ignored numerous calls by leaders to work hard. Now that Rwanda is a member of the East African Community, why can’t these drivers emulate their counterparts in other EAC member states, where taxis work day and night?

When the City Council launched 24-hour working schedule, everyone thought people would wake up and ultimately work for longer hours. But ever since the launch, there has been no difference.

People prefer to go home early and even wake up late. Such working methods remain a pain to many of us. The Nakumatt Group has set a record for working 24 hours; there are many lessons to learn from them.

The motorcycle riders should also be commended for being available at night to provide transport. Taxi drivers should emulate them.
