Rwanda's hopes of qualifying for the quarterfinals of the FIBA Africa U18 AfroBasket are in jeopardy after Sunday’s shock 46-79 loss at the hands of Cameroon at University of Pretoria.

Rwanda was hoping for a win against Cameroon to secure an automatic ticket to the quarterfinals but luck wasn’t on their side as the Cameroonians ran riot with ha convincing win.

Cameroon won the first quarter 17-14, and the second quarter 25-11 to go into the half-time with a 42-25 lead.

They extended their lead right after the break, claiming the third quarter 18-13 and the fourth quarter 19-8.

Rwanda's star shooting guard Brigitte Nibishaka scored a team high 17 points, while Yvonne Muhawenimana and Rebecca Cyuzuzo added 6 and 5 points respectively but their contribution wasn’t enough to win the game for Jacques Bahige’s side.

Rwanda finished the group stage of the FIBA Afrobasket in Pretoria with a 1:2-win ratio.

Their chances of qualifying for the last eight as the best third-placed team will depend on how the group stages unfold.
