The International Shotokan Karate Federation Rwanda (ISKF Rwanda) on Saturday, September 7, gathered senior Shotokan Karate instructors from across the country for its third training seminar.

The event, aimed at elevating the technical skills and unifying the approach of karatekas, attracted participants from over 50 clubs nationwide, demonstrating the growing commitment to improving the standard of the sport in Rwanda.
Theophile Kazeneza, the director of ISKF Rwanda and a senior karate instructor, stressed the importance of consistency in training during the opening session.
"These trainings are essential for ensuring that all karate instructors in Rwanda operate at the same level, both technically and internationally," Kazeneza explained.
He added that the initiative by ISKF Rwanda seeks to build a stronger karate community by aligning all instructors with global standards.
Jean Marie Vianney Nduwamungu, an internationally recognized karate instructor, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout and the progress made during the sessions.
"It’s clear that what we are teaching is bearing fruit. There’s no doubt that Shotokan Karate in Rwanda is on the rise, and our techniques are becoming more unified," Nduwamungu said.
He also hinted at more advanced sessions in the future, emphasizing that the journey toward excellence in the sport on the right path.
Nduwamungu urged participants to spread the newly acquired knowledge with other karatekas who were unable to attend.
"The expertise you gain here should not be kept to yourselves. We need to raise the level of all karate instructors in Rwanda, and that means passing on this knowledge to others," he added.
Jean Jules Ishimwe, first-time participant representing University of Rwanda, commended ISKF Rwanda for organizing ‘such valuable seminars.”
"These workshops are helping to put everyone on the same level, which will also benefit our national team. When players are selected, they will already be performing at a very good level," Ishimwe noted.
The next Shotokan Karate seminar will take place in early October.
