LATEST reports indicate that drivers battling for the African Rally Championship crown will settle for half points from the KCB Pearl of Africa Uganda race that ended prematurely last Saturday a week.

The rally was halted after the death of Riyaz Kurji, who was leading the pack at the time of his fatal accident.

This means that current ARC leader Jamie Whyte, who finished second in Uganda, has 24 points.

Uganda’s speedster Emma Katto has 15 points while two-time African champion Muna Singh who scored his first maximum points in Uganda is third with 13 points.

Rwanda’s Olivier Costa and Essa Mohammed from Zambia wrap up the top five slots with 9.5 and 7.5 points respectively.

National rally champion Davite Giancarlo has two ARC points.

While the changes may not go down well for Singh, who has dropped to third place in the aftermath, it is without doubt good news for Costa who has closed in on the Zambian driver.
Costa, who seems to be enjoying every bit of the championship, is now 3.5 points adrift of Singh and 5.5 points adrift of Katto.

With two events to go, a podium spot finish for Costa is still within reach provided he puts in good performances in Zambia and Zimbabwe.

After three races, Costa has picked up six ARC points in the opening round (Kobil Rally of Tanzania), a point in the grueling KCB Safari rally and 2.5 points from the KCB Pearl of Africa.
