The reading culture still has a long way to go in Rwanda

Editor,
I was at a party on Saturday when I was shocked at the manner at which some Rwandans regarded books and reading.
The host of the party, being an avid reader, had a couple books on display, when one of revellers, seeing them said,"why does anyone read anymore when there is television instead”?
I was personally shocked by this utterance because I assumed the fellow, being a university graduate, would appreciate boo knowledge.
It makes me wonder about whether we shall ever have a culture of reading.
If university graduates find reading of no importance, then what should we expect of the poorly educated masses?
I think we have a huge problem.
