ENGIE Energy Access Rwanda, on Thursday, October 20, showcased various solar products to officials from Global Off-Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA) - a global association for the off-grid solar energy industry.

The officials had turned up for the Global Off-Grid Solar Forum and Expo that unfolded last week in Kigali, organised by GOGLA and the World Bank.

After the conclusion of the forum, ENGIE hosted delegates at Nyandungu Eco Park to have them look at the energy solutions it has for the Rwandan market, ranging from the most affordable MySol, PAYGo systems for homes and small businesses, to advanced custom offerings for powering large facilities like schools and health centres.

ENGIE Energy Access Rwanda rebranded from Mobisol after acquisition by the former.

All products that ENGIE is selling on the market are currently branded MySol.

Sylvie Kanimba, the Country Director of ENGIE Energy Access Rwanda, said the company’s goal is to help the country in its ambition of achieving 100 per cent electrification by 2024.

She noted that ENGIE provides affordable options for both urban and rural populations, by making sure that the products are of high quality in terms of autonomy.

"When we do our designs, we try to make sure that the system has the capacity to work for 3 days even when there isn’t enough sunshine,” she said.

In an interview with the media, Pudence Rubingisa, the Mayor of the City of Kigali, said they are happy with such partners as ENGIE, since they are playing a good role towards a ‘Smart Kigali.’

"Kigali has targets of being a smart, secure city that maintains the wellbeing of its residents. We have a responsibility to achieve these goals, working together with the relevant institutions,” he said.

"Solar energy is one of the means we use to conserve the environment. It is also an affordable solution. As the city is growing and getting more and more residents, we need to make sure that they are breathing good air and having a good life,” he added.

ENGIE has worked as pioneers at the forefront of the solar revolution in Africa for over a decade.

Their high-quality energy solutions range from 10W all the way to 200W.

ENGIE Energy Access currently operates in nine countries of Africa namely; Nigeria, Benin, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia.

The company has so far transformed the lives of more than eight million people through clean energy and installed 45 MW of solar capacity.
