Kigali Pelé Stadium will be ready to host evening football matches again after getting a brand new generator.

The new generator arrived at the stadium on Monday, September 2, and was tested on Thursday, September 5, during the awarding ceremony of the Bayern Munich Youth Cup Rwanda finals.

The test was conducted in the presence of the Minister of Sports, Richard Nyirishema, and FERWAFA’s Vice President, Richard Mugisha.

The new generator generator has a capacity of 1000 kVA, significantly more powerful than the replaced generator’s 400 kVA unit.

The installation of this new generator was prioritized following a series of issues, including power cuts and inadequate lighting during matches, which had prompted concerns from stakeholders.

The City of Kigali had previously informed FERWAFA that evening games could not be held at the stadium until the power issue was resolved.

This led Rwanda Premier League Board to rescheduling the August 23 match between Rayon Sports and Amagaju FC to 3pm. It was originally set to take place at 6pm.

The swift delivery of the new generator, which was initially expected to take up to three months, took just 10 days after President Paul Kagame suggested that the issue "should have not have happened in the first place”.

This generator is expected to ensure that evening match kickoffs at Pelé Stadium will proceed without disruptions.
