Slumdog Millionaire was a major hit both in it being a great movie and its fashion inspiration. After the excellent exhibit of all different Indian inspired cloth designs we were all left in great need to go Indian.

Indian-inspired clothes are always exotic and elegant. When I think of India I think of colourful saris, bangles, rings, earings, scarfs, beautiful sandals and beautifully stitched skirts.

Now India has hit our door step with many inspirational designs that have already played guest in our local shopping points.

Look out for the new beautiful provocative floral skirts that combine old and new creating skirts that we all envy and wish were already in our wardrobe.

The Indian sari is however the greatest attraction and has inspired the creation of Indian style skirts. The skirts are made of cotton, silk or other fabric woven in different textures and resemble the inner layer of a sari.

The sari has always been ankle length but the skirts come even in short A line forms designed to work with any body type.

The skirts have beautiful contrasting colours that can be completed by plain colour tops and shoes. Some skirts have additional beadwork and are ideal to take you from a party to dinner.

The skirts are colourful and have coatings of gold and silver making them extraordinary flashy and elegant. Some of the skirts come with matching bags and shoes.

So how do you wear these skirts without looking like an Indian failed winnable? The key is moderation to learn to match up Indian inspired skirts with the plainest T-shirt or camisole.

Match up dull blouses with flashy Indian scarves to bring in colour into an outfit. These skirts should be teamed up with a pair of heel or colourful slip-ons. Jewellery is definitely a must and should be matched with the outfit.

Gold jewellery is the best thing to wear with all of these skirts. Fine gold bangles and different colour necklaces will off-set the outfit beautifully.

The Slumdog Millionaire left us asking for more but the inspiration it left on our fashion bud was worth it. So let’s all embrace it.
