Nine-time league winners, APR face another barrier against rivals SC Kiyovu this afternoon at Nyamirambo stadium in their quest to close in on table leaders Atraco.
The military side is second on the league standings with 42 points, four points behind leaders Atraco, who won’t be in action until tomorrow when they face troubled Rayon Sport at Amahoro stadium.
APR will be without influential Twine twin brothers Mbuyu and Kabange, who are on a professional trial at Belgium premier first division club Racing Dender.
Jean Bosco Uwacu and Ismail Nshutinamagara are major boosts for Dutch coach Erik Paske after recovering from nagging injuries as he looks to find a winning formula against a rejuvenated Kiyovu side.
Both sides go into today’s league game after reaching the last four of the MTN peace Cup.
APR knocked out Musanze 10-2 on goal aggregates while SC Kiyovu ended Military’s run with a 7-1 aggregate rout.
Burundian coach Okoko Bizimana, who has lifted the old giants from the relegation zone to the relative safety of the mid table, will be hoping to maintain his team’s wining run that has reaped three back-to-back wins.
Kiyovu, who have won the league title three times with their last one in 1993, has jumped from bottom to sixth position with 23 points in 19.
Elsewhere, relegation battling La Jeunesse host Mukura at Mumena stadium. Mukura dumped Jeunesse out of the MTN Peace Cup with a 3-1 goal aggregate win while AS Kigali which also lost to Amagaju in the Peace Cup 4-1 on aggregates face each other in the league at Ferwafa artificial turf.
Electrogaz play away to Marines at Tam Tam grounds while Kibuye visit Police at Kicukiro artificial turf.
