A Kenyan female truck driver is said to have been abducted by members of the FDLR militia in eastern DR Congo, according to reports.

A commissioner on the Kenyan Parliamentary Service Commission has called on the government to intervene and secure the release of the driver identified as Grace Wanza Munyao from Machakos County.

The truck driver was "kidnapped” from Kiseguro, Binza area in North Kivu province on August 27 by the FDLR, according to the M23 rebels.

The FDLR, a militia linked to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, is part of a coalition of the Congolese army fighting the M23 rebels.

"The same FDLR continue to threaten local agricultural activities through kidnappings and looting, thereby spreading terror and insecurity,” M23 spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka said in a statement on August 28.

Johnson Muthama of the Parliamentary Service Commission on Monday, asked Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to "urgently secure the release of Grace Wanza Munyao.”
