Uganda's opposition leader Bobi Wine injured, rushed to hospital

Uganda's opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known in music as Bobi Wine, has said he was shot on the leg evening of Tuesday, September 3 following an alleged scuffle with police.

The incident took place Bulindo, a neighborhood in Kira Municipality, Kyaddondo County, Wakiso District, in the Central Region of Uganda, the artiste confirmed on his x handle.

Luckily, Bobi Wine survived the shot and was immediately rushed to Nsambya Hospital in Kampala.

"Our President has been shot in the leg by police in Bulindo! He's been rushed to hospital for urgent medical attention. We'll keep the country updated on his situation," National Unity Platform (NUP) leader posted X account on Tuesday evening.

In a statement, Uganda Police said an investigation will be conducted to clarify the facts around the incident.

Bobi Wine is considered one of the strongest challengers to President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power in since 1986.

Bobi Wine ran against Museveni in the last presidential election in 2021 but lost.

His party, the National Unity Platform, currently holds the most seats of any opposition group in parliament.

Besides his political achievement, Kyagulanyi boasts of a stellar music career spanning nearly two decades. He won the 2006 PAM Awards Best Artiste and many more music’s milestones.
