Dieudonne Disi will race in this year’s Kigali International marathon, it has been confirmed. There were fears that the country’s top long distance runner could miss the prestigious competition with a leg injury sustained during the Paris marathon last month.

But the Secretary General of the national athletics federation, Appollaire Munyangoga yesterday refuted the reports. He told Times Sport that the France-based runner has not indicated that he will not take part in the marathon and they expect him in the country in time for the race.

"Disi will definitely take part in the marathon. I am not sure when he is coming but he will participate in the half marathon after taking part in last month’s Paris full marathon,” Munyangoga said.

The marathon is divided into four categories; full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), run for fun (5km) and run to school marathon for kids below ten years (4km).

The winner of the full marathon both in the men and women’s category stands to bag $2000 while the first and the second runners-up will get $1500 and $1200 respectively.

The theme of this year’s event is "End Violence against Women and Children”, and two music concerts at Petit Stade and Serena Hotel respectively will precede the marathon.
