Rwanda will play host this year’s East and Central Africa Senior Men and Women Nations Volleyball Championships in October.

According to the East and Central Africa Volleyball Confederation (ECAVCO) Secretary General Jacob Owiti, the confederation expects a bumper entry for the championship whose dates will be confirmed soon.

He believes that one of the ways in which the sport can develop is through staging more tournaments.

"We would like to assist member countries within the region to develop the sport and we can only do that through organizing various tournaments at both club and national team level,” Owiti said.

ECAVCO officials will attend the event since there will be a meeting to strategize for the year ending event- the Entebbe International Beach Volleyball is  slated for December in Uganda.

ECAVCO has also encouraged member countries to ensure that they take part in regional tournaments since this is the best way to gauge the standards of the sport in their respective countries.

Beside hosts Rwanda, other countries expected to participate include Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania among others.
