Rwanda have an uphill task to beat hosts South Africa on Monday, September 2, to start their 2024 FIBA U18 African championship campaign in style.
The game will take place at University of Pretoria at 3:30pm.
Rwanda and South Africa are placed in Group A alongside Tunisia and Cameroon.
Prior to the tournament, Rwanda U18 head coach Jacques Bahige told Times Sport that his young charges are ready for the challenge with South Africa’s test awaiting them.
"We are here to compete with other countries and to show them that we also have some competitive basketball spirit with us,” Bahige said.

There are 12 teams divided into three (3) groups (A, B and C) of four teams each. The top two in each group and the two best third-placed teams in the group stages will qualify for the quarterfinals.
The champions and runners-up of the tournament will represent Africa at the 2025 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup which will take place in Czechia.
