Rusizi residents, on Saturday night, October 22, witnessed one of the most entertaining DJs battles of the Mutzig Amabeats DJs contest, which ended in favor of DJ Buster after outshining DJ Foxxy in a battle of the DJs held at Motel Rubavu located in Rusizi town.
"I never knew Rusizi people party to this level! I really like the vibe and I am glad I was the man of the show tonight,” said the 26-year-old after winning the battle.
The DJ, born Jean Norbert Courage, brought the hype on the stage that his opponent Foxxy struggled to live up to, giving judges of the battle DJs Shariff and Bisoso, an easy task to pick the winner.
Their judgement was not so different from the audience when the audience showed huge admiration to Buster not only while on the spin but also through the votes.
Almost each of the challenges, DJ Buster owned the stage where he came out the best contestant ahead of Foxxy who at some point was a shy character which DJs rarely show while on stage.
Overall, DJ Buster won the battle with 56.9 per cent against Foxx’s 36 per cent to progress to the finals that will take place in Kigali.
DJ Buster made sure that his father didn’t go back home disappointed after sparing time to support him during the battle. With his father’s presence in Rusizi, the DJ had every reason to fight for a place in the finals, which he did.
"I am beyond excited to see my father showing up to support me and I dedicate tonight's win to him,” he said.
"It’s also a privilege to see a big company like Bralirwa giving value to our job by bringing up this platform for young DJs to show what they’ve got. It’s our turn to make the best out of it,” he said.
Asked how he coped with DJ Foxxy’s challenge, Buster said, "I can’t comment much on tonight’s opponent but it was pretty obvious that I was past him during the battle. I felt bizarre getting involved in a battle against him as a friend that we chill and hang out with so often but a competition is a competition. You always need to avoid emotions when you want to win.”
After winning the battle of Rusizi, DJ Buster said his eyes are only set on the Rwf15 million grand prize that was put up for grabs for the winner.
The DJ will, however, need to practice more and more on the ‘scratch’ session for him to keep himself in the race to win the contest. He got zero points in the challenge, casting serious doubts over his prize credentials should he not improve prior to the contest finals.
"Watch me out in the final, it will be totally different,” he said.
Born in Kigali, DJ Buster is a fresh University graduate with a degree in General Medicine that he earned in Cuba. Buster started deejaying professionally in 2019 when he was studying at university.
After graduating, he returned to Rwanda and realized that DJs were registering for Mutzig Amabeats DJs battle and he immediately jumped on the opportunity.
He is now among the four DJs who have progressed to finals joining DJ Ftrucker, DJ Rugamba and DJ Khizzbeats who booked their tickets to the finals after emerging winners of the semifinals in Rubavu, Musanze and Huye districts respectively.
The next and last stop for the semi-final will be in Rwamagana on Saturday, October 29, where DJ Montage and DJ Danny will be going head-to-head to decide who will complete the top five DJs going through to the finals.
The winner of the Mutzig Amabeats DJs competition will walk away with Rwf18 million and a complete DJ set besides being the Mutzig brand ambassador for a period of one year.
The first runner-up will pocket Rwf12 million and a DJ set while the second runner-up will pocket Rwf2,500,000.
The contest is organised by Bralirwa Plc with a goal to promote DJs and create public awareness of the talent and quality music in Rwanda, as well as provide business opportunities, networking, and leisure activities through competitions.
