2010 World/African qualifiers

Group Three
June 6
Zambia  v  Rwanda

June 7
Algeria v  Egypt

The senior football team, the Amavubi Stars will regroup on May 12 to start preparation for their next 2010 world/Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Zambia on June 6 in Lusaka.

Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa confirmed the arrangement in an interview with Times Sport yesterday.

"The team will start residential training May 12 and as a result, the league will be put on hold after the matches of May 9 so that (the national team) is given enough time to prepare,” he said.

According to Kalisa, the federation plans to have the professional players available in time, something they think will give Branko Tucak (coach) time to assemble a team capable of getting something from the Chipolopolo.

Rwanda need to win the remaining matches to be on the safe side of qualifying for either the World Cup in South Africa or the Nations Cup in Angola or even both.

The Amavubi Stars could only manage  a goalless draw at home against Algeria in the opening Group Three of the 2010 World/Africa Nations’ Cup second round qualifier last month in Kigali while Zambia played a 1-all draw away to Egypt in Cairo.
The draw left the group wide open as all countries are tied on one point each.

In a related development, Zambia President Rupiah Banda has handed over two Toyota Hilux double cab vehicles and a 30-seater Toyota Coaster minibus worth US$ 155,000 to the Chipolopolo.

The two vehicles, which are worth US$50,000, will be used by Zambia national team head coach, Herve Renard and his assistant coach, Patrice Beaumile, while the minibus will be used by the team specifically for the 2010 World/Africa Nations Cup qualifying campaign.
