Emmanuel Ruterana squandered his chance to win the Bujumbura Golf Invitational after a rugged display over the last two rounds.
The four-day Invitational event which attracted eight professionals and over 60 amateurs, climaxed on Sunday.
After posting convincing scores of 69 and 73 in the first two rounds, the Ernst & Young sponsored golfer lost his touch thereafter to finish off with wobbling scores of 78 and 80 in the third and fourth rounds. He partly blames fatigue for the weary display.
"I’m not happy with the overall score. I struggled in the final two rounds partly because I felt a little tired,” he said.
Uganda’s David Odhiambo took the top prize after returning 296 while Jean Baptist Hakizimana who had struggled over the first three rounds returned five over par in the final round to settle in third place after stroking 308.
In the amateurs’ category, Rwanda’s Ernest Ndayisenga emerged victorious after carding 236 net.
