RUSIZI — An official of World Relief Rwanda has urged pastors and school directors in Rusizi District to sensitise youth on HIV/Aids.
Celestin Gatera, the in charge of Regional Microfinance said for HIV/Aids to be uprooted effectively, it should be fought from classrooms beginning with the youth.
He was last Friday addressing participants at a one-day Aids sensitisation workshop organised by World Relief at Centre pastoral Incuti in Kamembe.
The workshop attracted over 30 participants mainly head teachers, pastors and bishops.
"In order to reduce or have an HIV/Aids free nation in the years to come, I ask you as church and school leaders to seriously mobilise and sensitise youth in your respective work and residential areas to avoid contracting HIV/Aids - because they are the leaders of tomorrow,” Gatera said.
He also urged participants to sensitise youth on condom use and abstinence in order to prevent HIV/Aids spread, adding that teachers and religious leaders should lead exemplary lives.
In a related development, 31 people in Nyamasheke District last week attended similar training, according to Albert Nzacahinyeretse, the World Relief field officer in the two districts.
