In a major step to enhance customer service, Ecobank opened a new branch in Nyabugogo on Thursday, August 29. This branch marks the bank’s eighth location nationwide, with six branches in Kigali, one in Rusizi District, and another in Huye District.

Speaking at the event, Desire Mana, Ecobank’s head of marketing and communication, said that the decision to open a new branch in Nyabugogo was driven by the high demand from clients, as the area is a central hub for business activities.

"Nyabugogo is the centre of business, and our clients really needed this branch. Some even used to come from other districts looking for services, which was challenging despite the presence of our agents,” he said.

"Through our Ellevate programme, we offer loans to women and women focused businesses at a 12.75 per cent interest rate, with 50 per cent collateral. We have a range of loan products designed to help our clients succeed in their ventures,” he said.

In addition to financial services, Mana emphasized the importance of providing business advice.

"We also advise our clients. Some may have businesses but need guidance on how to grow them. Now that we’re closer, they can easily access these services,” he added.

He also noted the availability of digital services at the new branch, including a system called Rapid Transfer, which allows clients to send money across Africa, thereby boosting their business operations.

"Today, Ecobank has over 800 agents across the country. Thanks to our partnership with Rwanda Telecentre Network (RTN), we have increased our agent network by 2,000, bringing the total to 2,800 agents,” he said.

"As a bank, when we help people develop themselves, whether by providing loans that enable them to advance or by offering digital services, it’s a significant step forward. This aligns with the government’s plans to make digital services accessible to everyone,” Mana added.

Beatrice Nyirabatware, a client who runs a business in Nyabugogo, shared her joy about the new bank branch opening in Nyabugogo.

"I am really happy it came here when we needed it most. At Ecobank, they offer a lot of services, including some that are particularly beneficial for women. We were excited to hear about this, and we are looking forward to accessing these services as it will help us develop,” she said.

Nyirabatware explained that before the branch opened, it was difficult to access banking services, especially for businesspeople who have limited time.

"But now that the bank is nearby, you feel a sense of closeness. You can even encourage others to join,” she added.

Having worked with the bank for six months, she praised its service, saying, "They provide good services, and they treat clients well. Unlike other banks where there are long queues, Ecobank addresses any issues you might have quickly.”

Prosper Kitenge, a longtime Ecobank client, has been banking with them for over 20 years and is among the first 12 account holders.

"We are excited that they brought the bank here. Now, services are close to us, and we thank them. It’s going to help a lot by providing a secure place to deposit money, and also offer loans. We used to travel a considerable distance, but now with the Nyabugogo branch nearby, we will not have to go far,” he said.
