Rwanda’s U18 basketball teams (boys and girls) are in South Africa for the 2024 FIBA Africa Men’s U18 Basketball Championship scheduled for September 1-14 in Pretoria.
Both teams left Kigali international Airport on Friday morning, August 30, aboard RwandaAir.
The boys’ team is under the tutelage of Yves Murenzi, while the girls’ team is coached by Jacques Bahige.
In the men’s category, Rwanda is in Group C Alongside Morocco, hosts South Africa and Zambia while the women is pooled in Group A alongside South Africa, Tunisia and Cameroon.
Rwanda placed in Group C at U18 Afrobasket
The finalists of the FIBA U18 Women's AfroBasket 2024 will represent Africa at the 2025 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Czechia.
Competition system
In the Group Phase, teams will face off in a round-robin system where the first and second teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals and will be joined by the two best third-placed teams.
The winners of the quarter-final advance to semi-finals, while the losers will play the classification games for the 5th to 8th Places. The classification games for third-place and the final will be played on the last day of competition.
