Rwanda midfielder Bonheur Mugisha revealed that he turned down deal to return to APR FC as he aims to explore opportunities abroad.

The Rwanda international is currently a free agent after his contract with Tunisia's AS Marsa expired.

"I've finished my contract, and at the moment, I don't have a team, but something will come up soon. That's why I came back earlier," the midfielder who is on international duty with Amavubi ahead of upcoming AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Libya and Nigeria.

Mugisha was linked to a potential to APR FC just a season after leaving the club in June 2023, but he turned down the offer explaining that he still has goals to achieve outside Rwanda.

"The reason is my overall ambition; there are targets I want to achieve abroad because I have already experienced a lot in Rwanda," he said.

"I want to test myself overseas to see if I can continue progressing toward the level I aspire to reach," he added.

Mugisha started his professional football career at boyhood club Heroes FC from 2017-19 before joining Mukura VS in 2020. He spent one season at the Huye-based club before moving to APR FC from 2021-2023.
