KARONGI — Remains of 128 victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi were last Saturday given a decent burial at Home St. Jean in Karongi District.

The remains were retrieved from latrines and trenches in Rubengera and Bwishyura Sectors. The burial ceremony was preceded by a requiem mass in Bwishyura sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, MP Samuel Musabyimana urged mourners to remain strong while working for the country’s future.

Describing the country’s past as horrific, the lawmaker urged Rwandans to always reflect on the past history in order to build the future.

"We should heal the scars that our country got during the Genocide using everyone’s participation,’’ Musabyimana, who was flanked by MP Solange Tuyisenge, said. He urged survivors who lost their relatives to be resilient in order to engage in developmental activities.

The burial ceremony was attended by various public  officials who  included local authority, Police and army officers. Meanwhile, student survivors from Kigali Health Institute (KHI) and Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), under their association (ARG), over the weekend joined their KHI- Kibuye branch counterparts for a night vigil to commemorate the Genocide.
