Buffaloes 96-7 Lion de Fer
Remera Buffaloes thrashed Lion de Fer 96 -7 Sunday afternoon at Rugunga play ground to move top of the national rugby league.
In what was supposed to be a titanic clash between last year’s champions and the rejuvenated Lion de Fer (last year’s first runners up) instead turned out to be a display of mediocrity from the Nyamirambo side.
Buffaloes completely out played and out classed their opponents, getting tries from Vincent Kamari, (5), Lucien Bikamba, Eric Mbarushiawa, Juma Mugabo and Jean d’Amour Nsengimana, who scored two tries each.
Kamari, who was the star of the show, also scored 16 conversions to kill off an out of sorts Lion de Fer.
Lion de Fer got a try from coach-player Jean de Paix Hategekimana and a conversion from Ibrahim Umurage.
"We played poorly today, and we only have ourselves to blame because I warned the players before hand how Buffaloes were in good form. But I hope that they learnt a good lesson despite the (heavy) defeat,” Hategekimana said after the game. Meanwhile, Gorillas also tamed the free scoring Sharks 19-5 in the day’s second game played at the same venue.
Isaac Gakunde and Jean de Dieu scored a try each while Jean Leo Twizeyimana added three penalties to hand Shark their first league defeat after two matches. Innocent Ahrukomeye scored Sharks one try.
After two matches, Remera Buffaloes lead the league standing with 10 points followed by Lion de Fer and Sharks, both on five.
