UNR Grizzlies Rugby club finally recorded their first league win of the season after defeating Puma 34-0 at Kamonyi grounds in Muhanga on Saturday.
It was the first win for the Varsity side that had lost their previous two consecutive matches against to Remera Buffaloes and Lion de Fer.
Remera Buffaloes beat Grizzlies 95-0 in the opening match of the season and Lion de Fer also heaped more misery by condemning the Grizzlies to a 22-13 loss.
But on Saturday afternoon, the UNR side enjoyed their day out against fellow strugglers Puma.
Ignas Nsanzimana and Stephan Mutasa scored three and two tries respectively while Alain Muhire added another try to seal Puma’s demise.
After the win, Grizzlies head coach Alphonse Umugire admitted that it was a relief for his team to record their first win after back to back defeats but again condemned the university administration for neglecting the sport.
"We are relived with the win but the administration has completely neglected rugby. We had to borrow boots for the players and most of the players are starting to drop interest in the sport, which is still new at the university,” Umugire lamented.
