Since joining second division side Union Sport four weeks ago, Saidi Abedi Makasi is yet to make his debut and that means he has not played competitive football for over a month.
This is a worrying scenario not only for Abedi or Union Sport but also for the national team given the fact that Rwanda’s next 2010 World Cup and African Cup of Nation’s qualifier against Zambia is just month away.
Union coach Alloys Ntahobitagwa said that the star striker is being slowly integrated in to the team and also refuted reports that the striker fallen out with the club even before he kicked a ball.
"We are slowly integrating Abedi in our team because it is not easy for some body, who played at the level he has done (professional) to adjust to level of the second division,” Ntahobitagwa told Times Sport yesterday.
After being held to a goalless draw by ISAE at Busogo in Ruhengeri on Saturday, Union are 8th of Group A with eight points.
Musanze lead Group A with 17 points after defeating Military 3-2 at Ferwafa grounds. Musanze’s goals were scored by Ahmed Ndikumana, Bertin kwizera and Emily Uwimana. Patrick Mbarushimana scored Military’s goals in the second half.
Group two leaders Etincelles beat Sorwathe 2-1. Both of Etincelles’s goals were scored by striker Manuel Twarigimana.
After eight matches, Musanze lead Group A with 17 points, level with Nyanza in second but Musanze have a better goal difference of16 against 15 for Nyanza.
Etincelles lead Group B with 21 points followed by Gisovu with 17.
